Thought for the day…

Being fit is a way of life.jpg

JUST be.

For a brief second, for a moment everything came to a stand still…Breath in, breath out, and just be, for this few seconds, minutes, for this moment in time. Words playing a sweet sound over and over in my mind calling out. Come to rest, it is time for a sound mind.

This moment. . . Now, this moment. . . Oh, girl, stay

enjoy this day

Light Italic words embed on my computer screen in front of me became words with meaning, that touched my soul deep down…

I don’t know if you are a mom, a dad, a wife, a husband, a single parent, married, divorced, full time business women, an entrepreneur,  a caregiver, an athlete, a student, jobless or whatever your “status” take a moment in this “busy” life and reach out to your deepest feelings and be still and JUST be…

d29f7b168e31795cd7b45b264908f314.jpg

Lay down the burdens of the things that you carry around if there is any. Ask yourself for a moment what it is that sets your soul on fire. What it is that you do that brings a smile to your face. Don’t get so busy and overwhelmed with life and all the expectations there might be, and most of the time the ones we set out for ourselves. For a moment this moment and a few more to come think about “YOU”! Do more of the things that sets your soul on fire and less of the things that drags you down. The little things in life that gives meaning and purpose. Find balance in everything you do.

It does not have to be big or small – Just a moment to appreciate the moment. Even if it is 5 minutes that you need as a  “Time Out” for yourself to sit down and appreciate every little thing there is to be thankful for, without thinking about the “next”.

We are all on a different path leading to different destinations but I want to encourage you, and myself to learn how to be still, and just BE and enjoy life without being to serious :-).

Reach out to someone today or just a simple smile and hello for someone in need or whatever it is.

No matter what tomorrow holds, live for the moment, for now, appreciate the little things in life, listen to the soft voice and come to a standstill if needed.

There is so much that I want to share and say but without the perfect words I wan’t to get to the POINT – STOP being to busy, embrace every precious moment. Take care of your mind and enjoy life.

Have an amazing day.

You are worthy of a TIME OUT every now and again.

you can do anything.jpg

Bible Journaling

The journey starts here…So this is all new to me but I’m super excited to start this awesome new “hobby”.

Bible Journaling…Have you heard of this before? Well I didn’t even know there is some sort of “bible journaling movement” happening until I saw a Pin one day on Pinterest and it immediately  triggered my creative hidden passion…

So I used to have a passion for journaling or rather studying the word of God. I could never just read a passage without making notes or having my highlighters and notepad close. Taking notes, writing down, highlighting scriptures, drawing or writing big bold words and colouring them in etc. But as time got limited I started to neglect what I enjoy doing, priorities changed, things changed and so I can think of many excuses.

Here it is 🙂 My new Bible:

IMG_9280   IMG_9281 (1)

NOTE: There will be times in life that you feel far away, but you have to remember that God will never neglect you. He will never give up on you or be distant from you. We are the ones that turn away. He is there waiting for your return and He will receive you with open arms. I miss my personal time with God and in the word and what better way to take up my love for studying the word by being creative with my Bible…

SPECIAL time spend with this little princess. My precious baby girl <3.

IMG_9283

These are my favourite Bible Journaling supplies so far, the Schneider pens are amazing and they don’t bleed through, Faber Castell watercolour pencils, bostik neon twister highlighters and then my daughters twist crayons…

IMG_9278 (1).JPG    A1UAPZDivSL._SL1500_.jpg   Bostik_Neon_Twisters_270_x_473 copy.jpg

I’m no artist and you know what that’s okay. It is NOT about the best “artwork” or masterpieces but about your effort and personal relationship with God. Yes there is some beautiful samples on Pinterest etc when you search bible journaling BUT you don’t have to be an artist to do this and don’t compare yourself with others. Just as you don’t have to be PERFECT to be accepted or loved or good enough for God. Don’t wait any longer. We all have flaws and believe me I have ALLOT but start somewhere. With everything in life you have to start SOMEWHERE…ohne2.jpgTherefore the reason I decided to share this post today —> What is it that you love? What is it that you enjoy doing? Do you have hobbies or a passion for something that you neglect doing? Maybe it is time to take out your pen and paper and start writing again. Maybe time to take your camera and go for a walk and capture some of the beauty around you, so what if your first few images are over or under exposed or without depth of field or out of focus – SO WHAT! Maybe it is time to get in your car and go the store and buy the ingredients and bake your favourite cake…Maybe it is time to put on your running shoes and go for a run, even though you can only reach the 300m mark ->JUST DO IT. Whatever it is, I challenge you to MAKE THE TIME and do the little things that bring joy to your soul. Stop waiting for the perfect time or circumstances. Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection always remember that.

Even my blog. There was a time that I couldn’t wait to post or share my day. Just writing and sharing whatever was on my heart. It wasn’t about how many people will read my post and how “perfect” my writing style is. It was pure for the passion of writing and sharing and reaching out to others, if one or none read my post then so be it. DON’T or STOP complicating things, get back to basics. Forget the voice in the back of your head saying: You’re not good enough, your effort isn’t good enough, you will fail, you don’t have time” or whatever it is that you believed for so long. Get up and get back!

Most important whatever you do do it with PASSION. Give YOUR best. Your best is THE best and that is what is important. Not what others think, say or do.

Please share and tell me more about your hobby / passion?

You can follow me on Instagram / Pinterest / Facebook / Twitter or just here, there or not :-): Tag me and share your awesome ideas/hobbies

Let your setback be your comeback

Today I want to encourage you to have the mindset of a champion and a conqueror. After listening to a video clip today “UNBROKEN” a few things came to mind that I want to share with you. We all go through our own battles in life and everything isn’t always as easy and perfect as it seems. Somewhere someone might be going through a tough time or just need a word of encouragement facing a difficult time. I strongly believe that there is no better exercise for your heart than to reach down to others and lift them up, and this is the reason for posting today.

I want to encourage you today to have the confidence to follow your heart <3. It is time for you to start believing in yourself again. No matter how small or how big the challenge I want to encourage you to #ChallengeYourself. In life, in work, in your relationships, with your goals but most of all your personal life. For once focus on YOUrself.  Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown your inner voice. Find out what it is that you LOVE and have the courage to follow your heart <3. You will have some ups and downs and that is normal and part of this amazing journey. Don’t allow a setback to be the reason to give up. Let your setback be the platform of your comeback, you will be stronger if you learn from it! Most give up on themselves way to soon or just before the breakthrough. Don’t let your current situation derail your focus on the life that is destined for YOU.

YOU are unique, fearfully and wonderfully made.

The real challenge of growth mentally, spiritually and emotionally comes when you get knocked down. It takes courage to get back up when life knocks you down but it will be worth it.

Don’t stand still at the could haves and the would haves if it should have, it would have…

Fear kills hope, fear kills passion and I want to encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, break down the boundaries of {I can’t} that is so set in your mind and start living YOUR LIFE, YOUR JOURNEY, YOUR WAY.

STOP fearing and start dreaming. Don’t let your emotions rule you it is time to take charge over your emotions and thoughts, you can discipline your emotions.  So the next time fear comes knocking at your door you better not open…Before you speak something negative think about it and speak positive!

replace fear

Proverbs 18:21 Amplified Bible (AMP)
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

Change is NOT EASY if it was everybody would do it BUT I’m telling you if you take control YOU WILL MAKE IT. You will be stronger & better. Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you or make you happy. You will value your worth and respect yourself enough to live life with passion & drive.

Forget about yesterday come on people – It is NOW that matters, NOW NOW NOW!!!

You can – you will – You are a conqueror…LIVE YOUR LIFE PASSIONATELY

Much love,

It is all about the journey…

My topic today is: It is all about the journey…

HEALTH | FITNESS | LOVE | COMMITMENT | DEDICATION | TEARS | SWEAT | JOY = REWARD – only to mention a few keywords, there is so much to say…

As most of you know I’m prepping for the WBFF South Africa taking place Friday 20th & Saturday 21st June 2014 at Carnival City Casino. This will be my first ever Fitness Stage Bikini Competition and believe me what a journey indeed.

WBFF South Africa

10416653_396212243849890_1665212119630583476_n

I took a moment to sit down and recap on how far I have come and in the process I realized my deep passion for the sport! From being so unhealthy, fat, low self-esteem to being fit, happy, content, and blessed where I’m at. Some people say but WHERE do I start…Or they think about the duration of the journey to reach their goal and that in itself is discouraging for some BUT today I want to encourage YOU!

Take the first step, you will never look back!

This sums it up for me:

Working out and eating clean doesn’t have to be a chore, have fun with it…

motivation

You have to get the right mindset and stop seeing this as an obligation and a chore, but rather an investment in your health and overall life.

So many moan non stop about their diets, the schlep of working out, prepping food etc…Well I cannot wait to food prep not even to mention my gym hour.

As a single mommy this to me is absolutely necessary. Doing something for myself only for it to be a benefit to my beautiful princess girl. I want to be the kind of mommy to whom she will look up to and see an example of living a healthy lifestyle. I want her to value herself enough to one day take care of her body & mind. I believe with working out and a good nutritional diet there comes a sense discipline and commitment. This I believe will form part of your everyday life whether in your workplace or in an environment surrounded by others. Be an inspiration to yourself first and then to others. Believe in yourself and you’re halfway there.

People ask me how do I get abs, or have time to food prep or go to the gym, or how do I get the time with a 1 year old girl? Well I make time and prioritize and set boundaries with certain things in my life!!

Well let me tell you it is all about consistency. I have abs all year round, why? Because this is my lifestyle this is part of who I am. I don’t believe in quick fix diets etc and I don’t see my lifestyle as being on a diet. I love my food and I make sure I fuel my body with the best. And yes of course I cheat and have sweets and the occasional night out partying but AGAIN its about consistency. No matter what I stay to my routine and I will be in gym the following day. Stop condemning yourself for the bad choices you make. Get up and go on…

“If you correct your mind, the rest of your life will fall into place.” Lao Tzu

Make it fun and love the journey…

This is some of the pics of my journey the last month or two…

Let me start at the beginning – This little beauty is my little princess. She is what my life is about. I live, breath and do EVERYTHING for her. I strive to be the BEST EVERY single day.

Truth about Fat Loss and Nutrition

Truth about Fat Loss and Nutrition

So this weekend was the Truth about Fat loss and Nutrition Workshop and I believe it was a huge success, educating people about some general guidelines on nutrition / food labels and understanding the Truth about Fat Loss.

“We did a little test with the 4 products listed here and did you know that if you had to consume 1 litre of this milk, 1 litre of this 100% orange juice, 50 g box of future life cereal and 500g box of Kellogg’s Special K in a week….you would be putting 57 teaspoons of sugar into your body. No wonder people are not winning the fight against the bulge!!!!!! Avoid health foods…..especially if they come with an advert!!!”

Some of the foods we looked at was:

Image

Thank you Eugene for an Exceptional Perfect Pulse Seminar – the knowledge you have is amazing and the passion you have for sharing the truth is absolutely inspiring…This is only the beginning of big things to come.

Image

I decided to do a post today on my view on a few things…Why do I feel the need to bring the truth to people on Fat Loss and Nutrition or health in general? Because I feel we need to start moving forward by knowing the truth. We live in a world where things get covered up way to easy and I’m so sick of companies making millions of profit by clever advertising skills, “covering the truth and exposing lies”. The general public in return are the ones walking around with sickness and health concerns.

I walked into a well known “Health Shop” yesterday where they sell supplements etc. So you would think the people employed in this positions will be educated in their field of expertise. As I walked down the isle I couldn’t help but to overhear the conversation of the guy (Supplement sales person) giving advice for a lady wanting to buy supplements & products to lose weight! I almost felt as if I can run the guy against the wall when the first thing he said to the lady was to cut out ALL CARBOHYDRATES and limit protein by replacing it with a “Shake”. Even typing this message makes me so angry when I think of this misleading and wrong advice…Listen today – NO Shake will replace good quality protein and neither will you have sustainable energy to get through a day without carbohydrates. We tend to trust others with our health or follow advice without really focusing on what the truth behind it is…We put our trust in someone who walks around with the qualifications without taking the time to research if it is indeed the correct information…

First of all Ladies & Gents you NEED PROTEIN | CARBOHYDRATES & FAT in your diet.

Your body needs carbs, healthy fats and protein. Protein is essential for tissue growth and repair. Dietary protein supplies the building blocks of muscle tissue. You have to remember that when you hit the gym for your weight training routine you are actually breaking down your muscle tissues. So WHY is your diet so important? Because you build your muscles outside of the gym just like they say Abs are made in the kitchen – that is the TRUTH…To do that you need a proper nutritional plan with the correct amount of protein/carbs/healthy fats to fuel your body…That is why I believe BCAA  (Branch Chain Amino Acids) is a good “supplement” to add to your plan if possible. If insufficient amino acids are present, your body will start breaking down muscle tissues to get the required aminos and you don’t want that. So what is the use of a good weight training session, if you don’t nourish your muscles when you walk out of the gym?! So never leave out the correct amount of Protein and Carbohydrates to fuel your body for sustainable energy levels throughout the day! So if you feel depleted and hungry most of the time consider looking at your protein intake. Remember protein takes longer for your body to digest which means you will be fuller for longer…

Since your body expends more energy to process proteins than it does to digest carbohydrates and fats, people who consume more protein throughout the day might see faster fat-loss results than people on a lower-protein diet plan.

Ladies protein WON’T make you bulky or muscular that is NOT the truth…You don’t have the amount of testosterone like males to build muscles like your boyfriend 😉 So make sure you incorporate high quality protein sources into your diet like fish, eggs, chicken and lean cut red meats. And if needed SUPPLEMENT with a good quality Pure/Isolated/ Whey Protein.
Not replace it but SUPPLEMENT with a protein shake…

Your body needs energy to survive. Your systems energy requirements are mostly met by your daily food intake. The energy value of food is important but the source of the calories and your portion control takes priority. The more processed and refined the lower the vitamin and mineral value of food will be and the higher the Glycemic Index or fat value tends to be. Processed and refined foods tend to have a drastic effect on elevating your blood sugar levels and increase the likelihood of fat storage occurring. And don’t ask questions when those cravings kicked in…

Guideline on how to measure Calories and Kilojoules:

Calories and Kilojoules is measured per gram of food:

1g of Carbohydrate = 4 calories / 17kj

1g of Protein = 4 calories / 17kj

1g of fat = 9 calories / 37kj

1g of alcohol = 7 calories / 29kj

claudine-kidson-tbt-meal-plan-and-tips1

claudine-kidson-tbt-meal-plan-and-tips

claudine-kidson-tbt-meal-plan-and-tips3

CONCLUSION:

Stay away from refined and process foods and try to balance your macro values to support your goals or general healthy living. Never follow a diet by leaving out a macro nutrient. DON’T follow a low carb diet / a low protein diet. It is not healthy and your weight loss goals will not be sustainable. Everything is about BALANCE…Consistency is key and always option for the best healthiest choices. Make a mindful decision to educate yourself on the values of food and see it as an investment in your health. Don’t let weight loss become an obsession but rather see it as a journey to better health and lifestyle.

Its all about the choices you make, so think about what you fuel your body with!

Have a super amazing and productive educated week 😉

Believe and you will achieve…

I have come so far and I believe YOU CAN 2. I’m sharing this even if I can inspire 1 person to make the decision to CHANGE and become the BEST version of yourself. Never EVER EVER give up and NEVER fear failure…

BELIEVE AND YOU WILL ACHIEVE. Never give up on yourself you are worth it.

Believe You Can

perfect pulse poster copy

Slow progress is better than no progress

Crazy week or two with so much going on at the moment and I cannot wait to share it all.

How are things going with your new year resolutions / goals etc, are you one step ahead or maybe two steps behind? If two steps behind don’t worry its not to late. Get up, get back and give it your all.

Remember slow progress is better than NO PROGRESS!

Believe you can

So the holiday season is over and everyone is slowly but surely getting back to “reality”. Most of the time a “Holiday” is exactly what we all tend to do over the festive season – (often holidays) an extended period of leisure and recreation, especially one spent away from home or in travelling. A day of festivity or recreation when no work is done…Holiday comes with leisure and loads of snacking, socializing, drinking, eating more than usual. So now that the holiday is over it doesn’t mean all your temptations will be over and that is why we need to be realistic in setting weight loss goals from here. I would like to share a few pointers on how to get back on track.

* START by making sure you are well hydrated. Replace all your sugary / alcohol drinks with water and loads of it. Start by cleaning your system by drinking a glass of luke warm water with fresh squeezed lemon. This will kick start your digestive system and it is a great liver cleanser. There is so many advantages of lemon to the body but I’m not going into the details now!

* Then prepare your food in advance as far as possible. This will not only prevent you from driving into the first available fast food drive through! Remember fail to plan and plan to fail.

* Set a weekly goal. For example: I will attend gym 4 times this week and have one jog / walk over the weekend…Print a calendar and put it up on your fridge. Make healthy living FUN and part of your life. It doesn’t have to be a barrier to get to the gym – see it as a fun and effective way of stress relieve and let the feeling of accomplishment drive you!

* REWARD yourself: Yes you’re right I said reward yourself. Depending on your budget or what you perceive as a reward and let it be once a month where you go and actually “reward” yourself with a manicure / pedicure / sport massage / a nice t-shirt whatever it is. Set out 1 day in the month and stick to 1 reward per goal. This is a great way to stay motivated if you know there is something “at the end”…If it is pizza / food make sure the timing you have your meal is correct! Don’t over indulge in a pizza or dessert before you go to bed for example lol.

Start with small steps and in the end you will be a runner towards success in every aspect of your life! Don’t fear failure. Let everyday be a new day. Forget about the past and move forward!

One of the things I said to myself was that I want this to be my best year yet when it comes to Fitness / Nutrition and assisting others to reach their goals and to transform not only bodies but minds & lives. If I can be an inspiration or a motivation to one person to start their journey to become healthy, then I’m already happy and one step closer to my goal.

As you all know by now I have a passion for “healthy living”, nutrition & being a fit.

So I decided to do a 2 year Diploma in Sport Science…I just realized that I have such a passion for this and would LOVE to further my passion with knowledge, by being even more qualified to help individuals. This will be done part time, so where I will manage to find the time with my life / work / 1 year old hehe I don’t know yet BUT I WILL SUCCEED and live my dream one day at a time!  I want to offer something different! Not just an average personal trainer you work out with leaving the gym empty handed, but rather equip and educate you in the process of what it is that you’re really doing! I will use my Design background and design workout log sheets for each client with a gym & nutrition plan specifically designed for you. It will be compiled either in a file or booklet format with a unique personalized program etc. This will not only motivate yourself to track your results / process but will also inspire yourself to look back on a “journal” to becoming the best version of yourself! I’m almost done with my Sport Nutrition & Supplementation Certificate so I’m excited to say the least :-)…Busy busy busy

So after a month or 3  “off-season” I’m back and ready for this year more than EVER! Back to “clean” eating & pumped training. Ready to be fit, healthy, strong & toned, are you?!

This is me now :-), don’t look at the hair & make-up cause theres none haha, had a good sweat!

Bring it on

I don’t know if it’s only me but oh my Holidays just make me gain weight! I went all out this holiday and believe me when I say I overindulged in sweets, “good” food NO NOT HEALTHY food 😉 and then of course the more than usual “social” drinking.

I do believe we all let go at some point the question is just will you get back to what is best for you? Do you have any goals or resolutions? I don’t normally have resolutions but I do have goals.

One of them is that I want to be fit to enter a race or two in running and Mountain biking. So I started running again and its GREAT! Going slow but I’m super motivated to get back to where I use to be at and even at a better pace!

Then there is some EXCITING things lined up and I will share them with you as soon as everything is finalised!

Let this be your best year yet. Stick to the plan and don’t be a January / February gym attender, but let this be a year of consistency and dedication. Don’t set unrealistic goals and set yourself up for failure by not achieving them.

Get a plan and stick to the plan…Let everyday be a journey to a healthier & happier you!

Do you have any goals? Please do share them.

Have a super week,

Claudine

Time for a new goal…

So my 12 Week Total Body Transformation Challenge came to an end and I was super happy with my results and reached my goal as I hoped to. I lost a total of 25kg and I reached my goal weight of 48kg… The aim is NOT to be be skinny but rather to be STRONG & FIT, TONED & LEANED OUT!!!

Image

Skinny is not sexy – Strong & Healthy is beautiful – This is my opinion…

Image

But now it is time for a new challenge and a new goal… I reached my transformation goal now I want to focus more on the detail of building muscle, to boost my strength, and get absolutely shredded by burning fat, AND to top it off I only have six weeks to achieve the next “thing”. I cannot reveal it now but I will tell you everything in 39 days. 🙂

So new program – new diet –  new goals – new supplementation…I decided to try out Jim Stoppani’s  6 Week Shortcut to Shred! I absolutely LOVED the LiveFit trainer from Jamie Eason but I did the trainer a few times over the last two years, so I’m up for a new challenge/program…

More about the program:
Shortcut to Shred is a fast-paced fitness attack guaranteed to torch body fat, build muscle, and boost your strength. It’s an intense, six-week plan built on six workouts per week, linear and reverse linear periodization, cardio acceleration, a precise three-phase nutrition plan, and a cutting-edge supplement program. Best of all, it’s absolutely free.

Shortcut to Shred isn’t easy, but you don’t want easy. You want results.

So is there anyone out there NOT on a specific program who wants to join in on this challenge?

I’m starting today – I switched the days around cause I did Chest & Shoulders yesterday – So here goes:

Image

Whoop lets do this… I will post more about my supplementation etc soon.

Then to all my new blog visitors & subscribers & Facebook group friends – Welcome – I hope we can encourage, motivate and inspire each other on the journey on becoming fit and fab! Get your friends to like my Facebook page, join the blog, follow a tweet and lets get this circle of friends going.

Have a super day.

Week 12: DONE AND DUSTED…

Wow what a journey its been so far, and as I sit here I cant believe how far I’ve come. I realize now as I’m writing this post that we never make or take the time to actually sit down to think about what we’ve achieved and by giving ourselves the recognition for it – You CAN feel proud about yourself when you reach your goals or when you achieve something personally no matter how big or small it may seem to others. We tend to be so “hard” on ourselves that we sometimes neglect the importance of acknowledging the “ME”.

It is so easy to motivate or compliment or believe in others but do you believe in yourself?!

Take a moment and just recap about how far you’ve come over the last few days, months or years. Whether it is fitness goals / academic achievements / a good report / a promotion at your work / new opportunities given /  starting a new job / becoming a new parent or whatever it is no matter how small or how big acknowledge it for a moment. Today I’m doing just that!

As most of you know I took up the Challenge 12 Weeks ago 20 May 2013 to transform my post pregnancy body! Today I want to admit that I was so afraid of taking up the challenge and for failure of not reaching my goals. There was a time that I didn’t even believe in myself to achieve my goal for in the “natural” with all my circumstances going on it almost seemed impossible! The CANT’S overpowered the CAN’s BUT never the less I did not allow my emotions and my fears to keep me from trying and giving my best! Today I want to encourage you to take on your fears. Whether fear of failure / fear of disappointment / fear of getting hurt / fear of being let down or whatever your fear might be and believe today that you can turn your fear into victory! When you set your mind to it you will achieve it so believe it…Everyday is closer than your yesterday.

I’m sharing the message with you that I have on my heart today: Never never never ever give up on yourself…And whenever you feel like quieting – put your hand over you heart and feel every beat and realize that YOU are alive for a purpose!

We get so busy in our everyday lives that we sometimes don’t even reflect on our days. We tend to be like “robots” getting up and going through an ordinary day. Today I want to challenge you why not do something EXTRAORDINARY!

Its been a while since I shared my progress but here goes.

Claudine Kidson is doing the USN 12-week Body Makeover Challenge for a second time. The first time she did so well that she was one of the 10 finalists in the USN Body Makeover Challenge competition. This time, she’s doing it to get back to her best after becoming a mom. The two challenges have been quite different because of so many changes in Claudine’s life and her body. Her journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s inspirational to all women, whether you’re a new mom or not.

What motivated you to do the 12-week Challenge the first time?

I was tired of being overweight and unhealthy. I felt bloated, tired, irritated and left with a low self esteem most of the time. I had the “dream” in my heart of being in shape for the first time in my life by transforming my body to be a healthier version of myself and to experience being confident in my own skin! It was something I wanted to do for MYSELF! Obviously the prize money was a HUGE motivation to enter because I needed it so much…

How long after you completed the Challenge the first time did you discover you were pregnant?

Only five months after being in the best shape of my life I found out I was pregnant, which of course was the biggest blessing of my life. I completed my first challenge at the end of November 2011 and I found out I was pregnant April in 2012.

Was it tough to accept that all your hard work was about to be undone to during your pregnancy?

Yes, it was EXTREMELY hard, as I worked so very hard to achieve my goal. BUT the best part was that I had the “taste” of being in shape for the first time in my life. And once you have felt the feeling of a healthy self-esteem and being confident about your body, you will never look back… So I knew I would work hard to get back into shape post pregnancy!

Did you breastfeed?

Yes I did, but only up to 3 months.

What motivated you to do the 12-week Challenge the second time?

There is no better feeling than being confident with your body… The feeling I felt after my first USN Challenge was priceless. That was amazing and enough to want it for a second time. I also want to prove to other mommies out there that it is possible, even if you gained as much weight as I did, or if you neglected your fitness during your pregnancy months, that you can turn it around. I gained way above 20kg… I love the feeling of being fit, healthy and the best mommy for my beautiful little girl. I want to be an example for her to follow one day. But most importantly, I wanted to show myself that I CAN DO IT a second time no matter what my circumstances are! Giving myself that hour of “me” time in the gym is the best reward for myself…

What have been the major differences between the first time and the second time?

Physically?

It felt as if I needed to start all over again. I wasn’t fit at all and carried so much more extra weight, water and fat than the first time. I’m obviously more challenged physically with all the changes that took place in my body. I had a c-section so had to keep that in mind as well.

Emotionally?

Things are definitely way more difficult than the first time around… I’m now a single mommy and time management is crucial! No more early mornings and late afternoon gym sessions. I have an hour per day for one training session so I have to make it work. Being a first-time mom requires a lot of time and dedication itself. So there are times when I’m emotionally tired of coping with all the new responsibilities; but ultimately, I feel so much better in every area… I still wake up 3-4 times per night for feedings so there are days that I’m really tired, but the hardest part is to get to the gym. Once I’m there and I finish my training I always feel energized and happier!

Logistically?

The effort it takes to get to the gym is an effort in itself! Logistically I need to plan my way to get there after a long day at work. I need to collect my daughter from crèche and on route to the gym. I look like a “pack horse” when I arrive at the gym. My gym bag, baby bag, Kaylen in her car seat… So imagine that! A 7kg baby in a car seat with two bags can get heavy you know!

Has motivation been more difficult the second time around?

Most definitely. It is tough at times. I’m a single mommy now and believe me when I say there are days that I’m so tired and not motivated and have personal things going on as well so I need to be more focused. But then again I realize the reward there will be from all the hard work and dedication. I only have myself to keep motivated so I just pick myself up and work harder!

Your body went through some major changes in the past 18 months, have you adjusted your goals from what they were the first time you did the Challenge?

Most definitely, I had to make adjustments and first and most important was the mental adjustments. If you keep comparing yourself to your first challenge and progress you will set yourself up for failure. You need to take your “current” physique into account and the fact that I just had a baby and then set goals accordingly. I couldn’t expect to drop all the weight I’ve gained during the nine months in one month; it is not realistic at all. I had to adjust my training schedule and I had to focus 101% on my diet to reach my goals in the time frame that I wanted to…

Have you found the same USN supplements as effective in both Challenges or have you made some changes to you supplementation choices?

Again I stuck to the plan – the USN 12 Week Body Makeover Plan – because it works! The only adjustment I made was replacing the Diet Fuel Ultralean with the Elite Whey Gold. The reason is so I was super focused on my diet so I could introduce it sooner. I also take the CLA Hardcore on and off in conjunction with the CLA 1000. I also introduced the USN Hyperdrive N.O on occasion to assist me in training my bigger muscle groups.

I will only adjust my supplements from Week 9 which will be next week, so you will have to follow my progress on my blog to see what changes I make and just how successful I am the second time around – http://www.lifestylechallenges.wordpress.com.

Week 5 Progress – YOUR best is the best…

Hi all my fit and fab friends, how is everyone doing?

Well I decided to do a post on my progress – Week 5 is where I’m at!

I have to admit that its been a “challenge” this last 5 weeks just to actually manage my schedule/time and lifestyle to make it to the gym. I realized by the end of week 4 that I’m putting so much pressure on myself and decided to make a MIND SHIFT! Things have changed in my life and it is time for me to adapt accordingly. NO I cant train twice a day like I use to – I’m limited to 45-60 min 4x a week so I had to make the decision get negative about it or embrace it and see it as my effort of the best!

So I cancelled my 4 week measurement session but decided yesterday I must face it…So I went and hey I was impressed with myself.

Dropped only 1kg but so much in centimeters and fat.

Herewith my 5 week measurement.

Week 5 Progress Pics:

Week 5 Progress Pic

I want to encourage you to take progress photographs EVEN if you don’t feel like it! I didn’t realize I was making progress until I saw this photos. It will motivate you to work hard!

Day 1 - Week 5

NEVER GIVE UP -Even if your progress is slow or you only manage 45 min a day or whatever situation you face JUST KNOW that your best is the best!

There is times that I feel discouraged and think about all the reasons WHY I cant train or get to the gym – but the difference is I still do it even though I don’t feel like it 😉

So again I want to encourage you to put in the effort that you know you are capable of – If it takes you 3 months longer to reach your goals so be it at least you are on your way!

WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE QUITTING THINK ABOUT WHY YOU STARTED IN THE FIRST PLACE…

Do you have defined goals?

Defining your goals will be the first step of your journey to success!

You have to be clear on what it is that you want to achieve. The moment you define what it is you want to accomplish the easier it will be to set out your goals and objectives.

By having set goals you are already more focused towards your success than not having a starting point or clear vision of your goal!

Write down your goal and be realistic. Take your time and really think this through. Differentiate between your personal goal, family goal, financial or business goal.

As I said be realistic about this. WHY do I say so? So that you don’t end up setting unrealistic goals in an unrealistic timeframe to only be overwhelmed and discouraged by not reaching them in the end. By setting realistic goals in a proper timeframe will increase your chances of actually achieving them.

No matter how small or how big your goal might be, write it down or print it out and put it somewhere where you will be “visually” reminded of how bad you really want this.

Once you have your goal, set your time frame for achieving your goal. Work on a time frame for a long-term or short-term goal. For example – Have a 3 Month / 6 Month / 1 Year / 5 Year / 10 Year Goal.

You will see how amazing it is to look back after 3 months or a year and actually see what you have achieved or reached.

The feeling of achieving a goal is absolutely priceless and it is like an “inner being” accomplishment!!

Be SMART when you set your goals?

Specific

Measurable

Achievable

Realistic

Timely

Tips to help you achieve your goals:

Get a mentor or “role model”. This person must be an inspiration to you or someone who achieved a similar goal than the one you are setting for yourself. Do research on the goal or similar goals or people who reached it for example a Weight Loss goal. Research the things they did or what helped them to achieve their goals and let this be a guideline for you! Always remember to never compare yourself with others we are all unique individuals.

Let it be a guide or motivation only. Then share your goal with a friend, your spouse, co-worker, family member or through a blog. This will keep you accountable believe me this is how my blog became such a big part of my “journey”. Sharing stories by not only motivating myself in the end but others as well.

So go on set those goals. Don’t set NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS rather set SOLUTIONS and GOALS.

We can do this.

set and reach goal concept

I will shortly share why I posted this specific topic on Goals or Motivation.

Please share this post with others so that we can help and motivate each others to becoming the best we could be…

COMMITMENT IS THE GLUE THAT BONDS YOU TO YOUR GOALS!

Have a super awesome day it’s almost the weekend! Whoop

USN TOP 30 FINALISTS FOR THE 2011/2012 BODY MAKEOVER CHALLENGE

Whooooohoooo I made it to the Top 30.

This just made my day…

Now for the next step – The announcement of the top 10 finalists…

This is a dream – To be the winner of this competition! I’m now even more motivated for the AMAZING post pregnancy transformation ahead. 2013 will be a challenging year but I’m visualizing and setting goals like never before…

TOP 30 Finalist

For the ones that lost hope at some point…

There is something on my heart and I want to share with you what I have noticed this last couple of months being pregnant…If you haven’t also already noticed, but once you fall pregnant it is as if everyone starts telling you how you should live your life, what is allowed and what isn’t, what you should be doing when you should be doing it and so the list goes on.

Today I want to tell you that to much mixed information is NOT a good thing. Go with what you feel is the right decision for YOU! Get a trusted friend or someone you KNOW will not share any information if not proven facts or only by sharing experiences without coming down on you on the what you should and shouldn’t be doing! If you believe that raw meat, sushi, raw eggs for example is a no no during pregnancy  – Then stick to what you believe in and don’t let others try to convince you otherwise!

I can give you my own story and you can do with it whatever you like but I do hope it can encourage you in some area. First of all I want to encourage all to stay on a healthy balanced nutritious diet. When I say diet I mean lifestyle – NO CRASH / weight loss diet! I want to stretch the importance of continuing the lifestyle as before pregnancy or if it wasn’t all that good to better your lifestyle. I made the mistake of letting go. From being SUPER fit and active in the gym once a day – to a not so fit once a week in the gym without any confidence…

With tears in my eyes I want to encourage you to not let go. Don’t see your pregnancy as a escape route of a healthy lifestyle. Don’t have the mindset oh well I’m gaining all this weight anyways so why bother making healthier choices… Since the day I found out of my pregnancy it was as if my body went into overdrive and I gained weight by the day – or that is how it felt. It was a HUGE adjustment and with all the changes going on inside my body I started to fall into a “depression” if I can call it that. I started getting negative about my body the way I look and then the pattern started of I don’t care anymore. BUT DON’T GO THERE. Your lifestyle is so important for the little one growing inside of you. As most of you know I have a under active thyroid (Hypothyroidism). So let me explain this briefly:

The thyroid gland

Your thyroid is an endocrine gland. This means it secretes hormones into your bloodstream. Hormones are chemicals produced by your body to help regulate how your cells and organs work. They are sometimes called chemical messengers.

Your thyroid gland makes two hormones: thyroxine (also called T4) and triiodothyronine (also called T3). Together, these hormones regulate your body’s growth and metabolism. Your metabolism is how quickly your body burns energy and how quickly reactions in your body happen. It affects lots of things, including how much you weigh and how much you sleep.

The production of thyroid hormones is controlled by another hormone called thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). This is made by an endocrine gland in your brain called the pituitary gland.

Hypothyroidism causes a general slowing down of your body’s functions.

Some of the symptoms include:

  • feeling tired and sleeping a lot
  • feeling the cold easily
  • dry and/or pale skin
  • coarse, thinning hair and brittle nails
  • sore muscles, slow movements and weakness
  • a hoarse or croaky voice
  • a change in facial expression
  • depression
  • problems with memory and concentration
  • weight gain
  • constipation
  • fertility problems and increased risk of miscarriage
  • heavy, irregular or prolonged menstrual periods
  • a slow heart rate

TIP: If you experience some of the above or all make an appointment and go and see you GP and get a reference for a blood test.

While pregnant, it is important to continue your medication and to make sure you go for regular check ups or blood tests to regulate your levels.

I believe this was a big cause of my extreme weight gain in the first 3+ months of my pregnancy – Why because I didn’t go for my regular check up at first and when I did I got the news that my medication had to be DOUBLED…So what if I went earlier would that have meant less weight gain? Well since my dosage of my thyroid medication is correct my weight gain seemed to stabilize resulting in only picking up the necessary weight.

Still left with the weight, feeling down I realized HEY THIS IS NOT THE END…You can still make a difference, you still CAN make better choices and let the rest of your pregnancy be a healthy one.

So last night I made the decision that no matter the weight gained up to now its time to get up, focus and make everyday a better day and to enjoy the last few months of my pregnancy.

So to all the pregnant ladies out there lets do this. To all the non pregnant ladies WANTING to get pregnant start making better choices as from TODAY…Not Monday or next week TODAY!  If you are over weight or under weight get your body into shape now.

Conclusion to the general blog followers: Let every single day be a day with a new meaning. New way of living, healthier options than the day before. Don’t focus on your past failures focus on the success of your future. If you got discouraged at some point get back up today. You deserve the absolute best so get your mind and body connected and start living the best life today!

Think about it…

Have you ever…

Got stuck in a moment where you find yourself sitting, pondering about the past and the future?

I’m at a road which seems to be a 2 way road, with dreams and visions, thoughts and things, goals and purposes all going through my mind at the speed of light…

Reflections of the past visions of the future…Do you sometimes think about the what could have been or what will be?

Ok so what is my point? Today or lets say the past week I took some time to sit down and let my mind wonder. Thinking about my past and the journey to where I am today.

Are you where you want to be in life, do you live your dream, are you truly happy where you are.

Well I must admit that this is a road less travelled.

Today I took a moment and watched a video clip of where everything started for me, stepping into the Corporate World – Fresh out of University uncertain about the things to come. This is where my personality was formed. This is where people touched my life. This is where I learned the fundamentals of striving towards excellence and last but not least where I was empowered as an individual to be the best in a secure team environment. Where I learned the values of Leadership…

This is where I spend my days, I can remember so clearly walking through that Business Park in the mornings towards my office being so deeply appreciative of the environment and the blessing to be an employee for a Group like Bosasa.

So why am I thinking about this today or every now and then??? Because I want to tell you today to never ever take things for granted. Every opportunity that comes across your path is there for a reason. Whether it is to reflect on moments of impact.

I can honestly say that my life up to now has been a journey one that I can reflect on and say today that I have given my best when placed in the positions to strive to be the best!

Don’t regret not living your full potential. I’m at the point where I’m sick and tired of the If this, If I have more money then, If I can only then, all the if if if if and if only!

Why do we live in a world where you live for the weekend? Are you really at the right place? Life is short we cannot always just think about the ifs! Be the difference you want to see. If you are not passionate about what  you do then I want to encourage you that it is time to get out of you comfort zone to start trusting God and to get in line with where you are suppose to be!

There must be something more…Have a dream & have a vision but most important don’t neglect the now. Don’t keep your eyes so focused on the future that you forget about the NOW!

LOVE never fails…

How awesome is this…

This morning when I opened my orange this was the first thing I saw – A little heart in the center of the fruit.

The aroma of an orange is strong and you can smell it from far away – So is the power of love – Not just a strong word but an emotion/feeling/experience with POWER!

So guess this is my message for the day.

1 Corinthians 13:4-5

The Message (MSG)

3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

Keep on keeping on, love one another, forgive one another, respect one another but most important of all LOVE one another!

Have a super fabulous beautiful day!

USN – Post Challenge Claudine 22 May 2012

Hi all my fit and fabulous friends. If you’ve missed Expresso this morning check it out here.

Stay motivated throughout the cold winter months, set new goals and make sure you keep your program interesting at all times!

Don’t let the winter months get to you and set you back on where you want to be. During the colder months we tend to reach out to warmer comforting foods and beverages. Make sure to go for the healthier options!

Keep up the hard work and work around those cold mornings, even if you don’t always feel like it get out of bed go to gym and before you know it you will feel energized and ready for the day!

Beautiful Monday…

Hello all my amazing friends following my blog – Welcome to a new bright and beautiful week – Monday…

How was your weekend? I had a super amazing weekend. There is nothing like spending time with good friends…Had so much laughs, fun and such a great time!

First of all does this sound familiar to you: “I’ll start Monday with my diet”, “I will focus again on Monday” or whatever the sentence or context its used in can you associate with it?

Well I sure can 😉 and believe most of us can – BUT today I want to tell you that no matter what day of the week YOU CAN make healthier choices, even if your day started of being an emotional roller coaster or if you did slip up having that chocolate – Put it behind you and let the next choice be a healthier one getting you closer to reaching your goals!

I can confess today that I have slipped up, majorly not even only a little; but you know what that is the amazing part? You are the one in charge and you CAN make a difference in your life! We all have weaknesses I can tell you that but does everyone admit it?

I’m an emotional eater and whenever I feel down, depressed I reach for sweets…There is nothing that can set you back as much us sweets with high amounts of sugar/corn syrup etc which can also be found in processed foods. You have to pinpoint your weak points and take hold of it and change it…You absolutely do have the power to change and you have the willpower to turn it around. Don’t let it take hold of you. An addiction/bad habit can be anything from smoking, binge eating, exercise abuse, alcohol or whatever leaves you with the feeling of being dependent on “it”!

Conclusion: Take the time today even for 5 minutes and think about the things that is holding you back. Whether in your personal life, your fitness goals, your relationships or just in general. Write it down and start to get a action plan TODAY! Mine is the fact that sweets is like an addiction, once I start I don’t have the power to stop BUT TODAY this will change. I make a declaration to myself that I am stronger than the temptation and I can resist it…

This is another reason I have a blog…Not to put up a front of who I am not but by sharing my imperfections helping others to become their best.

So my promise to myself this week is to say no to sweet cravings/chocolates/sugar. Come on lets stand together and help each other to overcome some obstacles. Is there something that is holding you back today? Lets take 1 day and 1 step at a time.

Hope you have a super fabulous week – Get active – Get into the gym – Eat clean – Work hard – Smile – Be positive – Love your body – Don’t condemn yourself – Speak life!!

Claudine and her USN 12 week challenge on eXpresso

I needed to take time this morning to reflect on how far I have come. We all get days that we feel down and want to indulge in everything possible but again just realized it so NOT worth it…

Have you struggled before with motivation and dedication?

Find a way…

Read this out loud and clear…Today I want you to get in front of the things that’s holding you back to becoming the best you can be…

We focus so much on the solutions of our journeys or problems that we sometimes get sidetracked by what is least important.

Today I want to encourage you – look beyond what you think is impossible! We have our entire lives in front of us to make a difference in our everyday lives or too loose weight etc etc. STOP making excuses and just get started. Its not that difficult – YOU CAN OVERCOME YOUR BIGGEST FEARS!!!!!

I’m preaching to myself here: I have neglected a few things in my life but the time has come to stop meditating on the past and to focus on today with a vision for the feature.

Smile, be positive, don’t get discouraged when you fail – Get back up and go for it!

Don’t let bad habits withhold you from your results – You have the power to change!

Expresso Show SABC 3 Interview

I had so much fun with the Expresso Team and with USN. It is amazing that I had the opportunity to share my story with you and I truly hope that I can encourage or motivate you to become the best you could be.

You are so beautiful within and what a added bonus to feel super from inside and outside!

Know that it is possible – It will be hard but it is NOT that hard once you make it a lifestyle and a goal to achieve.

Have a super day…

Cellulite…That pain in the…

Hi everyone so how is your day so far? I decided to read up/research more on Cellulite, for this is an area that I struggled with for quite some time. So I got the relevant information explaining this little pain in the butt 😉

Cellulite is very common in women, much more in woman than men and is mostly found in the abdominal area, buttocks and thighs/legs…So have you ever wondered how you can reduce cellulite? Well I can tell you today you can reduce cellulite by decreasing excess body fat. By having a cleaner diet and by exercising more for a start!

By following a balanced diet can significantly reduce your amount of cellulite. I can speak out of my own experience for I had “ALLOT” of cellulite before I lost the amount of fat and weight like I did! My legs even had cellulite and this resulted in me having no self confidence to even wear a short!

I believe that the cellulite I had was from eating allot of junk food, excess consumption of saturated fats and from allot of sweets/sugar and the fact that I have a underactive thyroid. But all of this was used as an excuse for way to long and today I can honestly confess that the cellulite disappeared the more toned I became!

Cellulite is also caused by: (This paragraph/material from Wikipedia)

1.       Hormones play a dominant role in the formation of cellulite. Estrogens may be the

important hormone to initiate and aggravate cellulite. However, there has been no reliable clinical evidence to support such a claim. Other hormones, including insulin, the catecholamine’s adrenaline and noradrenalin, thyroid hormones, and prolactin, are all believed to participate in the development of cellulite.

 2.       Genetic factors

There is a genetic element in individual susceptibility to cellulite. Researchers led by Dr. Enzo Emanuele have traced the genetic component of cellulite to particular polymorphisms in the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1A (HIF1a) genes

3.       Predisposing factors

Several factors have been shown to affect the development of cellulite. Gender, race, biotype, distribution of subcutaneous fat, and predisposition to lymphatic and circulatory insufficiency have all been shown to contribute to cellulite.

4.       Diet

Improving one’s diet, combined with exercise, can improve the appearance of cellulite.

5.       Lifestyle

A high stress lifestyle will cause an increase in the level of catecholamine’s, which have also been associated with the evolution of cellulite.

What is cellulite?: and by having excess fat underneath the skin (bodybuilding.com)

Cellulite is a collection of fat that pushes the connective tissue beneath the skin which causes the changes in appearance of the skin. Cellulite is much more common in women than men because of differences in the way fat, muscle and connective tissue are distributed under the skin.

The best way to reduce the amount of cellulite is to decrease excess body fat, eat fewer calories and exercise more.

Changing Your Diet

A combination of proper eating habits, aerobic exercises and strength training are the best things you can do to fight against cellulite. Opposite from that, if you live a sedentary lifestyle and you continue eating fatty foods, the cellulite will get bigger and bigger.

A well balanced diet can help women reduce cellulite. Improper diet and lack of physical activity can lead to accumulation of fluid, toxins and waste products in the body that make cellulite formations.

TIPS TO BETTER YOUR FUTURE PHYSIQUE:

A balanced diet contains the right proportions of protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals.

The diet should contain a high amount of fiber, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates.

Intake of trans and saturated fats must be minimal.

The food must be rich in omega fatty acids and essential fatty acids.

Avoid junk foods and fast foods, which contain bad cholesterol.

Add fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet.

Drink plenty of water every day. Avoid the use of caffeinated drinks.

Junk foods, most canned foods, fast foods, food with preservatives, oily foods, sugary foods, and refined foods all provide extra calories, slow down metabolism and increase the chances of getting cellulite.

Fresh fruits and vegetables contain a great amount of fiber and essential minerals that help detoxify the body.

Fresh Fruits And Vegetables Help Detoxify The Body.

Restrict the use of alcohol and sweetened carbonated water because there is nothing nutritious about them. Alcohol and smoking affect metabolism by slowing it down which can result in worsening of the cellulite.

Besides a healthy diet, the most effective and long lasting way of fighting cellulite is by performing cardiovascular exercises like jogging, cycling, running, and performing weight training exercises.

As you exercise, you sweat, which flushes out toxins from your body and reduces cellulite appearance. There are many great exercises and types of equipment that can burn calories and fat beneath the skin. There is an excellent selection of exercises which can target cellulite problem areas.

So are you one of those women who has to hide an area of dimpled, cottage cheesy flesh? If you said yes, then you’re pretty normal. Here is what to do!

Sad but true though, even women of ideal body weight can still have cellulite. Cellulite is alleged to be a special type of “fat gone wrong,” a combination of fat, water, and “toxic wastes” that the body has failed to eliminate.

Important:

The safest and long lasting way to reduce cellulite is by combining a low-fat diet with an appropriate exercise program that tones the underlying muscle. Therefore, an aerobic only exercise program aimed at burning fat is not enough.

Strength training is an important element in reducing the unsightly appearance of cellulite since it increases muscle tone and decreases total body fat. But the way you strength train is even more important. A program that targets fat loss in the lower body, specifically hips, thighs, abdomen and buttocks is ideal for most women.

The routines that I recommend for women with these goals in mind involve a 15-25-repetition concept, which also keeps the heart rate up. I also encourage that when training for shape, not size, that the exercises are performed with no rest between sets, only for a drink of water. This type of training will create more fat-burning muscle while still giving you a longer, leaner and shapely, not bulky body and can also be considered as a two in one system. Resistance training and cardio in one.

First, let’s discuss some of the physical issues that plague many women regarding body shape and body composition. Most women have the same issues. They want to become more firm and leaner, they want delicate feminine cuts, and they want to defeat the battle with the hips, thighs and back of the upper arms. In many cases, women want to not only firm up these problem areas, but they want to reduce the size of these areas.

Although nothing can replace the benefits of aerobic training for the heart, aerobic training does not tone muscle, and muscle tone is the only answer to the battle. Women need to incorporate lightweight training into their fitness routines in order to have the best body that they as an individual can possibly have.

In addition to the visible physical changes that will result from consistent resistance training, there are numerous health benefits that only resistance training can provide for women such as:

Slowing down the aging of the skeleton and increasing bone mass.

Improve the strength and function of tendons and ligaments.

Rev-up metabolism by building lean muscle. For every pound of lean muscle built, an additional 50 calories a day will be used.

Replaces the 1/2 pound of muscle that we lose each year as we age, beginning at around the age of 30.

There are many other benefits of resistance training, but those are several important ones. If properly done, your workout can not only give you that swimsuit model physique that you want, but it also can provide you with results that can reverse some of the inevitable results of aging.

It will in fact reduce and firm the areas that you battle with that won’t go away, no many how many aerobic classes you take.

The Bottom Line

The amount of fat in the body is determined by the individual’s eating and exercise habits, but the distribution of fat in the body is determined by heredity. In most cases reduction of a particular part can be accomplished only as part of an overall weight-reduction program.

Remember that you are never too old to begin. No matter if you are in your 20’s or your 80’s, if done properly and safely, resistance training can change your life by making you stronger, and firmer in a very feminine way.

Need inspiration?

Everyone loses their inspiration in the gym sometimes. What matters is what happens next. Here’s how to relaunch your program for out-of-this-world results.

Unless you are a beginner and have just started training, chances are you have been stuck at one point or another with a goal or a lift in the gym. Perhaps you wanted to bench 225 and got stuck at 215 or 220 for weeks. Maybe you were shooting to weigh a cetrain amount and couldn’t seem to get past the mark for what seemed like an eternity.

We have all been there. Maybe you are there now. If that is the case, then one or more of these 10 tips could be exactly what you need to break that barrier and meet your gym goals. If you are a beginner, pay attention because you will get stuck sooner or later and you can also implement these strategies to break your sticking points sooner rather than later.

1. Keep A Log

This one may seem like a beginner tip to some of you advanced guys but bear with me. There is something about seeing your barrier in black and white that just drives you nuts to break it. You can train and just keep your numbers in your head for months and still be stuck.

Instead, keep a log and you will see yourself improving in a matter of a few workouts. You will get so determined to see your goal in writing that you will drive yourself harder to do it.

Set up your own logsheet, see sample what I have done:

You Will Get So Determined To See Your Goal In Writing That You Will Drive Yourself Harder.

2. Get A Partner

If you have been training alone for a while, perhaps you need someone that has a similar goal as you or at least someone who is motivated to do big things in the gym as well. Having someone else there pushing you and encouraging you to do it will go a long way in helping you.

Knowing someone else there is watching and you could inspire them by breaking that barrier will make you work harder for both your partner and yourself. Also, having a partner you trust spotting you means you will have no fear of going heavier than usual.

Having Someone Else There Pushing You And Encouraging You To Do It Will Go A Long Way In Helping You.

3. Music

Let’s face it. As great as some gyms are, most of them play typical songs that aren’t very motivating. There is something about listening to your favorite tunes that just pumps your energy levels and motivation to a new high and makes you want to go smash some iron.

Whether it is hard rock, metal, hip hop, or any other genre that gets you going, get a mp3 player, add those songs and listen to them before and during your training. You will get pumped and you will get that personal record you have been striving for.

There Is Something About Listening To Your Favorite Tunes That Just Pumps Your Energy Levels And Motivation.

4. Make A Deadline

This is a great one for many people. Knowing that you must do something by a certain date or time makes you work harder at it. If a report has to be done by 5:00 pm and it is 3:30 now, don’t you work harder to get it done? Wouldn’t it make sense that this strategy would also work in the gym?

Now be realistic on this one. If you want to bench 225 by next week and you can only bench 190 this week, chances are that won’t happen. But setting a realistic deadline will inspire you to take each workout more seriously.

5. Make A Bet

Now on this one I recommend not doing anything crazy. Make a bet with a loved one that you can meet your goal by a certain date. If you win, they have to buy you dinner or give a you a few bucks. If you lose, then you must do the same for the other person.

Knowing there is a bet or a reward on the line will make you work harder than ever. Any time there is a competition or a prize involved, we as humans instinctively just step the intensity and effort up.

6. Change What You Are Doing!

Your issue may be that you have been doing the same thing for a while and you are just bored with the same routine. In this case, I suggest looking around Bodybuilding.com for a new plan to follow for a while to revive your enthusiasm to train.

Something as simple as the order in which you train your muscle groups could be the difference between being stuck on your goal for another week and moving on to the next goal.

Your Issue May Be That You Have Been Doing The Same Thing For A While And You Are Just Bored With The Same Routine.

7. Change Your Mindset

Have you been telling yourself before you go train, “I hope I can get it today?” If so, this is a no no. That word hope only sets you up for failure. Get that word out of your vocabulary right now. From now on, before you leave the house or office, you tell yourself this or something similar.

“Today is my day. I am going to do this. I have been working at this for a long time and today it all becomes worth it. I am going to the gym, I am ready and today I WILL DO IT!”

It might sound arrogant or cocky, but to do what you want to do in this endeavor, confidence is key. You have to know you are able to do it in order to make it happen.
8. Talk To Someone Who Did It

Who would be better to help you reach your goal than someone who has already done it? If you know someone that can do what you want to do, ask that person to take a few minutes and talk to you to see if there is something you are missing or another way to make it happen?

Seeing that it is possible and it has been done encourages you and motivates you to do it too. As the old adage goes, if he can do it, I can do it too.

Seeing That It Is Possible And It Has Been Done Encourages You And Motivates You To Do It Too.

9. Visualization

The mind is a very powerful thing. If you can see yourself doing something strong enough in your mind, you will do it in real life.

Take a few minutes and sit alone. Close your eyes and imagine yourself breaking that benchmark or squatting that load of weight. See yourself pushing and straining. Watch yourself doing what you are trying so hard to do.

Also do this a few minutes before you go train. I guarantee you that you will feel stronger and more confident in your ability.

Close Your Eyes And Imagine Yourself Breaking That Benchmark.

10. Take A Break

If all else fails, perhaps you need a break from the weight room to rest and re-energize. Sometimes all it takes is getting away for a couple day or even up to a week to get that motivation back up and to feel that fire and passion again.

It might be difficult for you to do, but you will be better for it. You will feel better both mentally and physically which will help you break that barrier.

If All Else Fails, Perhaps You Need A Break From The Weight Room To Rest And Re-Energize.

Conclusion

I can tell you from personal experience and from seeing others that these tips work. Whether you are trying to gain muscle, lose that last few pounds of fat or get that new one rep max you have been so determined to get for so long. Implementing one or more of these tips will help you do it and also will help you break other barriers faster in the future.

Believe in yourself…

Whoop whoop a new day, a new mind, new beginnings, and one step closer to a new you…

Did you fall of the wagon a bit??Please don’t feel condemned, get back up and focus ahead. Don’t let your failures keep you from reaching your best!

Ladies (and gents 😉 how was your day? How are things going with your challenge? Are you still on track and motivated towards your end goal. I just realized again today how big of a need there is out there for people to live a healthier lifestyle or to look and feel great as a person. It is in reach for you to become the best you could be…By the right amount of dedication, support and motivation you can change so many things.

It is human to struggle or to sometimes feel depressed but that is where you need friends or family to help pick you up and carry you towards the finish line.

I’m talking about these things for I have been there and I know it can get difficult at times…

If I close my eyes I can remember each feeling that I felt being fat, without confidence, bloated, depressed, tired and so the list can go on…

Quick reminder this is me a few weeks/months ago 18 August 2011. This is one of the better pics that I chose you should see from the side. When looking at this I remember the way I felt inside…

I know some might think…ahhhh she’s not that fat, well let me tell you I felt exactly like a person who is 30kg over weight. I went through the same emotions, difficulties etc…

Whether you are 5kg overweight or 15kg, we all go through some of the same emotions and feelings etc.

This was me 12 weeks later 10 November 2011…

This is now the latest pic taken on the new years weekend…Obviously I hold my breath to show some abs ;-)

What am I trying to say? I don’t want to show of on a photograph but I want you to realize that YOU CAN achieve your goals…I wish I could motivate each and everyone visiting this blog. Or those going through a bad patch in life — it will be ok! You don’t have to look like a super model in 1 week. You took months to get where you’re at so give your body the time to adjust and transform. Whatever challenge you are on make it sustainable and let it become a lifestyle.

Don’t see it as a diet or another 12 week challenge…See it as a lifestyle. I’m on week 2 of the LiveFit trainer (you can download it under LiveFit). I’m not doing another challenge to see how much more weight I can lose, I’m doing it because I believe I can be in even better shape and more healthy. I’m doing it because I love working out and to keep myself challenged on a training program etc.         Do I really want to compete in the Fitness industry — No I actually don’t want to! I was approached by so many people asking me about doing competitions etc that I got so confused at one point not knowing what I want to do, and when I sat down really thinking about it I realized it is not me, I don’t want to…Why must I put so much pressure on something I enjoy doing so much, and take the fun out of it?? Maybe I will be in such good shape by April/August that I will compete who knows? But I don’t have to set a competition date for myself to keep me motivated to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

I’m at a point in my life where I want to enjoy every single thing I do. To live life passionately and to appreciate every single day like it is a gift from God.

To reach, inspire, to help and to motivate people…That was and is my goal.

Please comment below if this makes any sense…Sometimes it feels as if I’m blogging for myself, but I realized that is also ok! If my words can touch or encourage 1 out of the 11 000 blog visitors then my goals are achieved!

Be positive, be strong, and believe in yourself!

You ABSOLUTELY do have the power to change and YOU are beautiful no matter what!
