Excited about baby on the way, but hit by reality of feeling like the “not so glowing pregnant mom to be”? If that is you it is okay…It is okay to feel this way so stop being so hard on yourself, we are all unique and different on the journey preparing for the new life we will give birth to in just a few months.
No matter how well you think you prepare yourself mentally for pregnancy you may not be able to anticipate all of the different changes that are about to take place in your body…
I’m just over 23 weeks pregnant as I’m typing this post and thought I would share my personal experience. This is my second pregnancy. My daughter will be turning 6 in January 2019 and our baby girl will be born end of February, beginning of March 2019, we will find out the day today so will keep you posted.
Pregnancy is different for every women. Some woman glow with good health and vitality during their pregnancy and others feel miserable and tired and maybe a bit depressed. I’ve never been as tired in my life accompanied by emotions like a rollercoaster like in my first trimester or well throughout this time. From driven and ambitious to lifelessness’ is there such a word? Well I don’t know but it sums it up. Daily tasks became an effort and left me exhausted and out of breath before I even got started. Where training is part of my everyday life I went to no training in no time…Why, because I was just to tired and self-conscious about my serious weight gain!!!
Some common changes like sore breasts, this is one of the earliest signs of pregnancy. They are triggered by hormonal changes, which are preparing your milk ducts to feed your baby. Once again some are just too happy to have fuller breasts where others not so much…Going up not one cup size but 3 sizes in 5 months, yip that’s me…. Now let me tell you that in itself is heavy, uncomfortable and just terrible to say the least. Keep in mind I’m 1.52m.
Food cravings and aversions are real. The only craving I had in my first trimester was for anything lemon. Crushed ice with lemon was the most refreshing drink I could have but make sure to take note on what you drink and the sugar intake of your drinks. Drink more liquids to stay hydrated especially in these warm climates during summer in South Africa. Drinking water is extra-important during pregnancy, and it’s more important than ever to ensure your source is safe. Your recommended daily water intake is higher during pregnancy so keep that in mind. Expect frequent irritation. Blame all of it on hormones or progesterone or whatever, it is shit to say it mildly. Increased fatigue and changing hormones = Mood swings. Things are getting real, you can’t control them ALL of the time whether you give it your best shot. You can be excessively happy and the next moment depressed and crying.
We are all different and we all respond to things differently and the sooner you realize it the better for your own well-being. So to the glowing mothers out there gaining some or no weight, glowing and vitalized and loving every second of the physical changes, I’m so happy for you and can’t imagine how amazing the entire experience must be. To the rest waking up tired, taking it day by day to get through the mental struggle accompanied by the changes, hats of to you as well.
This is to all the pregnant mommies reading this post. You got this and it will soon be over. Every second is so worth it, holding that little one in our arms will let all the negatives disappear in a blink of an eye. I might feel the most self-conscious and insecure, unattractive that I have ever felt in my life, but it is only temporary, it will get better. I am mentally prepared to make a comeback in every area of my life including health and fitness related. Back to prepping food and eating 100% clean and healthy. To working out at least 5 times a week and getting mentally fit. This is to healthy living, body, mind and soul.

This does not mean that you are weak or have less excitement for the miracle growing inside of you, yes it may be suppressed by some of the things mentioned above but you know deep down in your heart the way you feel about your little one and that in itself exceeds every possible negative there could be. Being a mother is the most amazing, rewarding, incredible experience and gift. So keep that in mind and keep going.

I know how it goes…Life gets busy and you just manage to get your daily to do list checked, if you are lucky enough to do so…Today I hope that I can inspire you to just take a step back, reflect and think about yourself for a minute or two…
Are you taking the time out for yourself as a mother, wife, full time employee, stay at home mother, student no matter what your title might be.
We can easily become consumed by all the HAVE TO do’s that we forget about the WANT TO do’s. Don’t neglect yourself, your passions or the dreams. You are worthy to be passionately driven and happy while on the journey of life.
Today I decided to take back control of my time and prioritize my time and schedule to do the things I love and are passionate about, are you?
So stop making excuses and start living the life you so desperately want. Take back control of you health, get back to the gym even if you manage to get 30 minutes in. Go for a walk, make healthier choices in the kitchen. Sit down and read your book, write in your journal, whatever it is that you enjoy doing for YOURSELF do just that.

I don’t know if you are a mom, a dad, a wife, a husband, a single parent, married, divorced, full time business women, an entrepreneur, a caregiver, an athlete, a student, jobless or whatever your “status” take a moment in this “busy” life and reach out to your deepest feelings and be still and JUST be…
Lay down the burdens of the things that you carry around if there is any. Ask yourself for a moment what it is that sets your soul on fire. What it is that you do that brings a smile to your face. Don’t get so busy and overwhelmed with life and all the expectations there might be, and most of the time the ones we set out for ourselves. For a moment this moment and a few more to come think about “YOU”! Do more of the things that sets your soul on fire and less of the things that drags you down. The little things in life that gives meaning and purpose. Find balance in everything you do.
It does not have to be big or small – Just a moment to appreciate the moment. Even if it is 5 minutes that you need as a “Time Out” for yourself to sit down and appreciate every little thing there is to be thankful for, without thinking about the “next”.
We are all on a different path leading to different destinations but I want to encourage you, and myself to learn how to be still, and just BE and enjoy life without being to serious :-).
Reach out to someone today or just a simple smile and hello for someone in need or whatever it is.
No matter what tomorrow holds, live for the moment, for now, appreciate the little things in life, listen to the soft voice and come to a standstill if needed.
There is so much that I want to share and say but without the perfect words I wan’t to get to the POINT – STOP being to busy, embrace every precious moment. Take care of your mind and enjoy life.

How are things going with your new year resolutions / goals etc, are you one step ahead or maybe two steps behind? If two steps behind don’t worry its not to late. Get up, get back and give it your all.
Remember slow progress is better than NO PROGRESS!
So the holiday season is over and everyone is slowly but surely getting back to “reality”. Most of the time a “Holiday” is exactly what we all tend to do over the festive season – (often holidays) an extended period of leisure and recreation, especially one spent away from home or in travelling. A day of festivity or recreation when no work is done…Holiday comes with leisure and loads of snacking, socializing, drinking, eating more than usual. So now that the holiday is over it doesn’t mean all your temptations will be over and that is why we need to be realistic in setting weight loss goals from here. I would like to share a few pointers on how to get back on track.
* START by making sure you are well hydrated. Replace all your sugary / alcohol drinks with water and loads of it. Start by cleaning your system by drinking a glass of luke warm water with fresh squeezed lemon. This will kick start your digestive system and it is a great liver cleanser. There is so many advantages of lemon to the body but I’m not going into the details now!
* Then prepare your food in advance as far as possible. This will not only prevent you from driving into the first available fast food drive through! Remember fail to plan and plan to fail.
* Set a weekly goal. For example: I will attend gym 4 times this week and have one jog / walk over the weekend…Print a calendar and put it up on your fridge. Make healthy living FUN and part of your life. It doesn’t have to be a barrier to get to the gym – see it as a fun and effective way of stress relieve and let the feeling of accomplishment drive you!
* REWARD yourself: Yes you’re right I said reward yourself. Depending on your budget or what you perceive as a reward and let it be once a month where you go and actually “reward” yourself with a manicure / pedicure / sport massage / a nice t-shirt whatever it is. Set out 1 day in the month and stick to 1 reward per goal. This is a great way to stay motivated if you know there is something “at the end”…If it is pizza / food make sure the timing you have your meal is correct! Don’t over indulge in a pizza or dessert before you go to bed for example lol.
Start with small steps and in the end you will be a runner towards success in every aspect of your life! Don’t fear failure. Let everyday be a new day. Forget about the past and move forward!
One of the things I said to myself was that I want this to be my best year yet when it comes to Fitness / Nutrition and assisting others to reach their goals and to transform not only bodies but minds & lives. If I can be an inspiration or a motivation to one person to start their journey to become healthy, then I’m already happy and one step closer to my goal.
As you all know by now I have a passion for “healthy living”, nutrition & being a fit.
So I decided to do a 2 year Diploma in Sport Science…I just realized that I have such a passion for this and would LOVE to further my passion with knowledge, by being even more qualified to help individuals. This will be done part time, so where I will manage to find the time with my life / work / 1 year old hehe I don’t know yet BUT I WILL SUCCEED and live my dream one day at a time! I want to offer something different! Not just an average personal trainer you work out with leaving the gym empty handed, but rather equip and educate you in the process of what it is that you’re really doing! I will use my Design background and design workout log sheets for each client with a gym & nutrition plan specifically designed for you. It will be compiled either in a file or booklet format with a unique personalized program etc. This will not only motivate yourself to track your results / process but will also inspire yourself to look back on a “journal” to becoming the best version of yourself! I’m almost done with my Sport Nutrition & Supplementation Certificate so I’m excited to say the least :-)…Busy busy busy

Can anything EVER be as rewarding as being a mommy…I wake up daily with this song in my heart. Loving my little angel more and more every second that goes by. She is 10 months old and I can’t believe in less than 2 months we will celebrate her first year of life!
Did I ever really know what love is? Maybe a little, maybe not even at all. Until the day I gave birth to my beautiful princess girl. Being a mommy can be tough at times. It requires ALLOT of your time, patience, care and responsibility but nothing can ever be as rewarding. I believe there is times we feel like failures and times that we feel like super Moms, all apart of the wonderful journey of being a parent!
Yesterday my baby girl had a visit from her daddy, which in the end was the “Perfect me time” opportunity, to get things done that I don’t normally have time for! As I drove away from the house the only thing I could think of was my little “babsie” and how I miss her already. Is it normal or is it strange…
So what did I do in my “me time”…LOL
Well first of all I’m proud to say I registered for the first time to be able to vote in the elections next year! Yes I know almost 28 and never voted before. Shy & Embarrassed to say the least but Oh well now I can 😉 and just “maybe’ my X will make a difference!
Then I decided to go to the mall to spoil myself with “something” ONLY to walk out with shopping bags filled with…what?? Clothes for my little one HAHAHA! Can you relate? Going to the shop for one thing walking out with 10 things but the 1 you initially went there for? I love buying beautiful things for her and to be honest I put her first every single time and will do so way before I put myself first! Ok ok, I did buy something 😉 a Nike short and training vest…
Can’t post it all but how cute is this:
First of all check out the Nike Shorts & T-Shirt – Isn’t it just adorable? As you know by now I love NIKE so believe she will to 😉 or that is what mommy will buy her haha! Then the LTD outfit next to it – The fabric is amazing.
Then…with summer here I decided to buy her a swimming pool and she loves it. Its so cute.
Then the not so fun part, or rather the more expensive part…It was time to upgrade the car seat and Oh boy this can get an expensive exercise! If things go on like this I might just apply for a second job and a third ;-)! BUT again seeing her smile and “appreciation” is priceless and once again every cent well spend!
She loves her F1 Car Seat that have 4 recline positions so from here she’s driving in style!
Core of my message: You are the best mommy or daddy to your little one. Although things might be overwhelming at times and the ‘me times” limited we are what they have. You were blessed with a child, a cousin, a friend for a reason and maybe just a season. So appreciate the ones around you and see the personal reward in everything you do.
Once again a productive and fun-filled weekend. Every day holds in something new…Never take one day for granted. Appreciate every second of every moment. Time waits for no one. You are like a gardener planting the foundation seeds in your child’s life that will flourish one day at a time!
