Confession of a not so glowing pregnant woman

Excited about baby on the way, but hit by reality of feeling like the “not so glowing pregnant mom to be”? If that is you it is okay…It is okay to feel this way so stop being so hard on yourself, we are all unique and different on the journey preparing for the new life we will give birth to in just a few months.

No matter how well you think you prepare yourself mentally for pregnancy you may not be able to anticipate all of the different changes that are about to take place in your body…

I’m just over 23 weeks pregnant as I’m typing this post and thought I would share my personal experience. This is my second pregnancy. My daughter will be turning 6 in January 2019 and our baby girl will be born end of February, beginning of March 2019, we will find out the day today so will keep you posted.

Pregnancy is different for every women. Some woman glow with good health and vitality during their pregnancy and others feel miserable and tired and maybe a bit depressed. I’ve never been as tired in my life accompanied by emotions like a rollercoaster like in my first trimester or well throughout this time. From driven and ambitious to lifelessness’ is there such a word? Well I don’t know but it sums it up. Daily tasks became an effort and left me exhausted and out of breath before I even got started. Where training is part of my everyday life I went to no training in no time…Why, because I was just to tired and self-conscious about my serious weight gain!!!

Some common changes like sore breasts, this is one of the earliest signs of pregnancy. They are triggered by hormonal changes, which are preparing your milk ducts to feed your baby. Once again some are just too happy to have fuller breasts where others not so much…Going up not one cup size but 3 sizes in 5 months, yip that’s me…. Now let me tell you that in itself is heavy, uncomfortable and just terrible to say the least. Keep in mind I’m 1.52m.

Food cravings and aversions are real. The only craving I had in my first trimester was for anything lemon. Crushed ice with lemon was the most refreshing drink I could have but make sure to take note on what you drink and the sugar intake of your drinks. Drink more liquids to stay hydrated especially in these warm climates during summer in South Africa. Drinking water is extra-important during pregnancy, and it’s more important than ever to ensure your source is safe. Your recommended daily water intake is higher during pregnancy so keep that in mind. Expect frequent irritation. Blame all of it on hormones or progesterone or whatever, it is shit to say it mildly. Increased fatigue and changing hormones = Mood swings. Things are getting real, you can’t control them ALL of the time whether you give it your best shot. You can be excessively happy and the next moment depressed and crying.

We are all different and we all respond to things differently and the sooner you realize it the better for your own well-being. So to the glowing mothers out there gaining some or no weight, glowing and vitalized and loving every second of the physical changes, I’m so happy for you and can’t imagine how amazing the entire experience must be. To the rest waking up tired, taking it day by day to get through the mental struggle accompanied by the changes, hats of to you as well.

This is to all the pregnant mommies reading this post. You got this and it will soon be over. Every second is so worth it, holding that little one in our arms will let all the negatives disappear in a blink of an eye. I might feel the most self-conscious and insecure, unattractive that I have ever felt in my life, but it is only temporary, it will get better. I am mentally prepared to make a comeback in every area of my life including health and fitness related. Back to prepping food and eating 100% clean and healthy. To working out at least 5 times a week and getting mentally fit. This is to healthy living, body, mind and soul.

It is okay to feel overwhelmed by all the changes happening. It is okay to speak out about it or even reach out for help. This does not mean that you are weak or have less excitement for the miracle growing inside of you, yes it may be suppressed by some of the things mentioned above but you know deep down in your heart the way you feel about your little one and that in itself exceeds every possible negative there could be. Being a mother is the most amazing, rewarding, incredible experience and gift. So keep that in mind and keep going.

Let’s do this, one step at a time.

Make time

Never get so busy making a living that you forget to do the things you love and are passionate about.

I know how it goes…Life gets busy and you just manage to get your daily to do list checked, if you are lucky enough to do so…Today I hope that I can inspire you to just take a step back, reflect and think about yourself for a minute or two…

Are you taking the time out for yourself as a mother, wife, full time employee, stay at home mother, student no matter what your title might be.

We can easily become consumed by all the HAVE TO do’s that we forget about the WANT TO do’s. Don’t neglect yourself, your passions or the dreams. You are worthy to be passionately driven and happy while on the journey of life.

Never get so busy blog.jpgToday I decided to take back control of my time and prioritize my time and schedule to do the things I love and are passionate about, are you?

So stop making excuses and start living the life you so desperately want. Take back control of you health, get back to the gym even if you manage to get 30 minutes in. Go for a walk, make healthier choices in the kitchen. Sit down and read your book, write in your journal, whatever it is that you enjoy doing for YOURSELF do just that.

I hope you have an amazing day and week ahead. I will check in more regularly here as blogging is something that I’m passionate about, that I admit I have neglected for a while…

Bible Journaling

The journey starts here…So this is all new to me but I’m super excited to start this awesome new “hobby”.

Bible Journaling…Have you heard of this before? Well I didn’t even know there is some sort of “bible journaling movement” happening until I saw a Pin one day on Pinterest and it immediately  triggered my creative hidden passion…

So I used to have a passion for journaling or rather studying the word of God. I could never just read a passage without making notes or having my highlighters and notepad close. Taking notes, writing down, highlighting scriptures, drawing or writing big bold words and colouring them in etc. But as time got limited I started to neglect what I enjoy doing, priorities changed, things changed and so I can think of many excuses.

Here it is 🙂 My new Bible:

NOTE: There will be times in life that you feel far away, but you have to remember that God will never neglect you. He will never give up on you or be distant from you. We are the ones that turn away. He is there waiting for your return and He will receive you with open arms. I miss my personal time with God and in the word and what better way to take up my love for studying the word by being creative with my Bible…

These are my favourite Bible Journaling supplies so far, the Schneider pens are amazing and they don’t bleed through, Faber Castell watercolour pencils, bostik neon twister highlighters and then my daughters twist crayons…

I’m no artist and you know what that’s okay. It is NOT about the best “artwork” or masterpieces but about your effort and personal relationship with God. Yes there is some beautiful samples on Pinterest etc when you search bible journaling BUT you don’t have to be an artist to do this and don’t compare yourself with others. Just as you don’t have to be PERFECT to be accepted or loved or good enough for God. Don’t wait any longer. We all have flaws and believe me I have ALLOT but start somewhere. With everything in life you have to start SOMEWHERE…ohne2.jpgTherefore the reason I decided to share this post today —> What is it that you love? What is it that you enjoy doing? Do you have hobbies or a passion for something that you neglect doing? Maybe it is time to take out your pen and paper and start writing again. Maybe time to take your camera and go for a walk and capture some of the beauty around you, so what if your first few images are over or under exposed or without depth of field or out of focus – SO WHAT! Maybe it is time to get in your car and go the store and buy the ingredients and bake your favourite cake…Maybe it is time to put on your running shoes and go for a run, even though you can only reach the 300m mark ->JUST DO IT. Whatever it is, I challenge you to MAKE THE TIME and do the little things that bring joy to your soul. Stop waiting for the perfect time or circumstances. Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection always remember that. 

Even my blog. There was a time that I couldn’t wait to post or share my day. Just writing and sharing whatever was on my heart. It wasn’t about how many people will read my post and how “perfect” my writing style is. It was pure for the passion of writing and sharing and reaching out to others, if one or none read my post then so be it. DON’T or STOP complicating things, get back to basics. Forget the voice in the back of your head saying: You’re not good enough, your effort isn’t good enough, you will fail, you don’t have time” or whatever it is that you believed for so long. Get up and get back!

Most important whatever you do do it with PASSION. Give YOUR best. Your best is THE best and that is what is important. Not what others think, say or do.
